911 Call saves life

A young boy’s 911 call, and quick teamwork from police and medical personnel, saved a women’s life last week.

On 10/ 5/01 at approximately 2:40 pm Sanilac County Central Dispatch received a 911 call from a 7-yr-old boy.

          The youngster reported that his mother had cut her arm “rally bad and bleeding a lot.”  Dispatcher Theresa Thomas dispatched the closest patrol unit, Lexington Rescue and Croswell EMS, while keeping the boy on the phone and instruction him how to stop the bleeding.

          Deputy Jim Sanchez arrived first on the scene, followed by back up officers Deputy Dennis Prowse and Detective Sgt. Dave Hall.  Offices found a 43-year-old female bleeding profusely from a large wound on her left arm.  The victim had lost a large amount of blood.  Deputies controlled the bleeding before the ambulance arrived.

          The woman was transported to Port Huron Hospital by Croswell EMS.

          Authorities credit quick teamwork of the 911 dispatcher, the son, deputies and EMS workers with preventing the victim from bleeding to death.
