The year 1895 saw the famous Great Lakes salvager, Tom Reid, determined to raise the ill-fated, 290-foot freighter Cayuga from it’s grave 100 feet beneath the surface of Lake Michigan. While other salvagers said it was too deep and too difficult a task, Reid took it on as a personal challenge.
